Hello,

My name is Thanh-Ai Nguyen. I am currently a senior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I am doing a thesis project on d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing multilingual learners and I am in the process of recruiting participants. I am looking for parents who speak another language besides English and have d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing children. Their child must know and use ASL and be under the age of 18 years old. This study does not require both the parent and child to participate, but the parent must participate.

If your family decides to participate in the research study, one interview via Zoom will be conducted with the parents, which would take from 60 to 90 minutes. You will be asked questions about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences of raising your child.

If your child agrees to participate, an interview via Zoom will be conducted, which will take from 30 to 45 minutes. An ASL interpreter will be present, but parents are welcome to join their child’s interview. Your child will be asked questions about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences having hearing loss and growing up in a multilingual home.

Both of these interviews will be recorded.

If your family participates, your family will receive a $20 Amazon gift card.

To participate, email me at thanhainguye@umass.edu.

Thank you!
