Join us as in giving the New York School for the Deaf a warm ASDC welcome as they join our family of Member Schools who support D/HH students in language accessibility, learning, and inclusion.

Founded in 1817, the New York School for the Deaf, the second oldest school for the deaf in the United States, is a private non-profit 501(c)3 organization operated in cooperation with the New York State Education Department.

The New York School for the Deaf, also known as Fanwood, cultivates bilingualism by stimulating language skills and literacy in both ASL and English.  In this language –rich environment, Deaf and Hard of Hearing children are provided the tools necessary for life-long learning and success.  Proficiency in ASL is strongly associated with higher levels of English proficiency, as well as general academic achievement.

We’re excited to have them join the ASDC Family! Welcome NYSD!
